Q: What is the driver's manual course?
A: The driver's manual course is the DMV required course for individuals who failed the knowledge test three times. The course consists of a PowerPoint presentation, class discussion and worksheets focused on traffic signs & signals and concepts from the Virginia Driver's Manual.
At the end of the presentation and class discussion, a final exam with 50 multiple choice questions is given. To receive certification, a minimum of 80% is required on the exam. The course completion certificate is passed out at the end of the course.
If you fail the final exam, you may return to take the exam again at no additional charge. However, per Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles rules, you can only take the final exam once per calendar day.

A: The price for the driver's manual course is $100.
Q: What are the age requirements?
A: If you fail the knowledge exam three times and are age 18 or older, you must either retake the classroom component of driver education (consisting of 36 50-minute classroom periods) or complete an 8-hour driver's manual course.
If you fail the knowledge exam three times and are under age 18, you must retake the classroom component of driver education. If you wish to take the driver's manual course, you must provide proof of having completed the classroom component of driver education before you are allowed to enroll in the driver's manual course.
Q: What happens when I complete the course?
A: When the course is completed, a certificate is given to the individual. The individual must submit that certificate to the DMV to be allowed to take the test for a fourth time and thereafter.
Q: What should I bring to class?
A: You need to bring photo ID, preferably state ID. Other acceptable forms of photo ID are: passport, school ID or government-issued ID.
You can bring any drinks or snacks you'd like to class. We will take a 30-minute lunch break.
