Online Driver Improvement Course


What is the online driver improvement course?

The online equivalent of the 8-hour classroom Driver Improvement Course.

In order to benefit from the course, you must be able to work independently and be comfortable using a computer (mobile devices are not recommended).

It is your responsibility to determine if your court accepts this computer-based driver improvement course to satisfy a court required driver improvement course.

What is the price for the this course?

The price for the online driver improvement course is $60

Payment methods accepted are: Cash, Money Order, Credit Card or Debit Card. The course fee can be paid online here.

No refunds will be issued for any reason. It is your responsibility to determine if this course satisfies your driver improvement requirement.

Are there any restrictions on who may take the online course?

You may not take the online course if:

  • You are under age 20. (if you are under age 20, this computer-based course will not satisfy a driver improvement clinic requirement. You must satisfactorily complete a clinic that provides classroom instruction)
  • You were convicted of the traffic violation when you were under the age of 20.
  • You are required to attend a commercial driver improvement clinic.

If any of these conditions apply, you are not eligible to take an online driver improvement course. Instead, you must satisfactorily complete a driver improvement course that provides classroom instruction.

It is your responsibility to determine if your court accepts this computer-based driver improvement course to satisfy a court required driver improvement course. You must bring a court official document on the day of the final exam to receive safe driving points.

(if you enter your date of birth incorrectly, your completion information will not be posted to your driving record, therefore; if you are DMV directed, your clinic requirement will not be satisfied)

The course can be completed at your own pace, using any computer with internet connection. Upon successful completion of the course, your information will be electronically submitted to DMV within 24 hours.

Instructions for the Online Course

You have the ability to save your progress if at any point you need to log out of the site. Please keep in mind that user profiles will only be kept for 6 months.

The course consists of 11 levels and a final exam. When all 11 levels are completed call our office at (757) 926-5956 to schedule an appointment for the final exam.

Our school will provide the computer needed to complete the exam. The student takes the final exam online in the presence of the licensed instructor.

Testing Procedures for Final Exam

Test Location: 878 J Clyde Morris Boulevard, Newport News, VA 23601

Hours Available for Testing:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday - 10AM - 5PM

Wednesday - 11AM - 5PM

Saturday - Call for availability

May 21st - July 25th - Office will be closed on Tuesdays & Thursdays. If you need an online course final exam appointment on Tuesday or Thursday please contact us to inquire about availability.

On the day of testing, you must bring the following to the test site.

  1. Photo ID (Driver's License)
  2. Course fee or receipt of payment

The final exam is 50 multiple choice questions, taken at random from a pool of 200 questions. Open book testing is not allowed. You will need to achieve, at minimum, a score of 80% to receive a passing score on the exam. You will receive your certificate of completion upon successful completion of the exam, no mailing necessary.

If you fail the exam, you may return to take the examination again. However, per Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles regulations, you can only take the final exam once per calendar day.
