Classroom and Online Driver Education
Students under age 18, must complete 36 fifty-minute periods of classroom instruction, or the online equivalent, to earn a driver's license.
Students age 18 or older, are not required to complete the classroom portion of driver education. However, to obtain an adult waiver, the class must have previously been completed with proof of completion or enrollment in the course is required.
Classroom instruction is scheduled by the driving school. If you miss a class period, you must schedule a make-up day with the instructor. If the course instructor cancels a class due to severe weather conditions or an emergency, then students will be informed of the cancellation and the make-up day.
Behind-the-Wheel and Driving Lessons
All behind-the-wheel students must complete the course as required by state law. The law states the course is 7 days of in-car instruction, and each student must complete 50 minutes of driving and 50 minutes of observing another student driver each day.
These are not driving lessons. You have to already be an experienced driver. This is an assessment course of your driving skills.
We can teach adult waiver applicants during this course for additional fees. The instructor may determine at any time that a student does not have the skills necessary to be ready to test for their driver's license and may recommend more practice with family or friends.
Driving lessons are 60-minute driving periods with 1 student and 1 instructor. The student can choose any skills to focus on during the instruction. Completing lessons does not result in a road test or a driver's license. A student evaluation can be completed at the student's request if additional practice is recommended by the instructor.
Behind-the-wheel and driving lessons are scheduled by appointment. A schedule will be agreed upon between the student and the driving school prior to complete payment of course fees. Pick-up times for students are estimates based on the distance from student to student. Please allow for a window of at least 15 minutes before and after the appointment time for the instructor to arrive depending on traffic situations. Students will be notified by phone call, text message, and/or email if the instructor needs to cancel or change the appointment time.
Students (age 18 or older), Parents, and Legal Guardians will be held liable for any willful or intentional destruction of school property (automobile, books, office equipment, building, etc.) caused by the student. Penalties can include dismissal of student and/or forfeit of course fees to cover the loss. Top Notch Driving Schools, Inc. is not responsible for the unlawful actions of the student.
Top Notch Driving Schools, Inc. does not guarantee that any student will pass the state license examination, or the student can secure a driver's license, or the student will be guaranteed employment upon completion of any instruction period(s).
Any driving lesson or behind-the-wheel appointment requires at least a 24-hour notice of cancellation beforehand. Notice is defined as the student call their instructor and either speak to them directly or leaves a voicemail in addition to sending a text message. The offending student will be fined a $30 cancellation fee. The cancellation fee must be paid before the start of the next lesson. There is no fee charged for unavoidable absenteeism or extreme emergency, and the remaining parts of the program will be rescheduled between the instructor and the student.

The Governor's Executive Directive for minimizing customer contact (1 student per vehicle) has expired and is, therefore, no longer effective. Driving schools must administer the in-vehicle component of driver education, behind-the-wheel, with two students in the vehicle to meet the observation requirement. This applies to juveniles and adults.
